I’m in JFK waiting for my plane to go back home to Vancouver.  I already feel like I am back in Vancouver just because of the types of people I am surrounded by right now.  I may come off different in this post only because the only sleep I got since yesterday was maybe a total of 30 minutes I got at Marshall’s, 10 minutes in a cab from Brooklyn back to midtown Manhattan, and then the taxi ride from midtown Manhattan to JFK Airport.

My flight is delayed.  Why are there never any outlets in the waiting areas by the gates?  It is ridiculous!

I’ve posted almost all my pictures from NY on my MySpace as well as my flickr account (which you can check out in the Gallery page here on my site).

NYC was amazing.  I got to meet up with friends I hadn’t seen since last year I was there, also Matthad a show in town at the same time as I was there so go to visit with him on Monday which was cool.  I really gave-er per-say to the city last night.  Didn’t drink much but danced and enjoyed good company and found out finally how to watch Robot Chicken on a laptop (oh how I love to nerd out in front of macs.

I’ll write more about Linda and my adventure 620 feet below the ground with the Sandhogs later.  So for now check out the pictures and pray that my luck will break and I actually won’t be sitting next to some infant on this long flight home that which I’m hoping to finally get some Zzz’s on.

How lovely, my head just started to pound…

So I decided I wanted to get my haircut in NYC.  The only problem was I didn’t know where I should go.  I was talking with Maria about it and since she has all these fashionable globe-trotting friends of course she had a bevy of people to ask on my behalf on their opinion on where I should go.  Her hairdresser said the Downtown Bumble & Bumble and ask for Bronwynn.  Her other friend Negar aslo said Bumble and Bumble and while I was doing a city search on hair salons at the same time I was reviewing reviews on Bumble and Bumble - it was a sign!  Bronwynn could only take me today, tomorrow, or next week Thursday.  Unfortunately I only land at 9 p.m. tomorrow and Thursday just seemed too long of a wait.  I asked if there was anyone else they could suggest as I was referred to Bronwynn and the receptionist looked up and said Marco was on the same level (as he does editorial styling) and was available for noon on Wednesday.  So I am now booked!  I am SO excited!  Like I can’t even breath…  Oh it’s funny to be a girl sometimes…  Pictures soon to come, of course.

This morning I drove into town early before I had to start work because today is the day I have to pick up my renewed passport.  I was tempted to stop at the little coffee shop whose coffee I’ve become accustomed to in Gastown, but it wasn’t exactly on my way to Coal Harbour.

Every person I saw walking or jogging on the street I saw differently this morning.  As I saw their faces passing I felt as though I felt their beings.  I saw them.  This one business woman with a smart short haircut passed by holding an old purse you can tell she hasn’t been able to replace yet just because that one is so practical, along with her laptop case stuffed with files would have normally seemed so empty to me walked in front of me at the crosswalk and the moment I saw her face I saw someone who was more than her expressed outer self projected; it made me smile.  More people passed by on the short few blocks down W. Hastings to Broughton where my final destination was.  I saw foreigners who’ve never looked to beautiful before.  I saw an obese man with the kindest heart…  I pull into my underground, all three levels below the surface.  A woman two stalls down was vacuming her vehicle.  I got out of my car, grabbed my camera, my tripod, my laptop case and a bag of booze and soda that I had brought along to replenish the fridge here at my part-time abode.  The vacuming had stopped.  I thought, I’ll be sharing an elevator with this woman.  I rarely see anyone in the elevator in this building.  I shut the back hatch of my car and head to the elevator, only to see the woman stepping into the elevator and allowing the door to close.  Immediately I thought, “Bitch!”.  As I approached the elevator I realized that I had been in such a euphoric state upon parking my car, and now it had all disappeared.  The elevator came in record time, perhaps she sent it down, or maybe she just went to P1 to through out her garbage from her vehicle…

Today is a funny day.  I still feel peace in my heart even though this is the first free minute I’ve had from work all morning.

P.S. New York City here I come!  I leave Friday, and I’m excited and stressed at the thought of packing.  I feel like I am returning home for a visit when it comes to New York.  New York is going to be so much fun!  I’ll get to hang with Marshall and Rosy again (Marshall DJ’s at some pretty sweet spots in NY so you know that means good times)  Rosy already has a party to invite me to Monday night.  Tuesday my dear friend Matt plays and I’ll get to see him for the first time since March 5th.  Pretty stoked about it all…

P.P.S. I’m even more excited now because Marshall said he’d be down for checking out David Guetta at Pacha with me Friday night after I land - what a way to re-introduce myself into the city I love so much!

I was really looking forward to Thursday night.  It just felt like greatness was going to happen.

I had gotten into town a bit early and went to Rodney’s to meet up with Louis and crew.  Turned out Alisha was there and Louis didn’t tell me because it was going to be a surprise.  It was really great seeing her!  I forgot how amazing of a soul she is and just nice and fun.  From Rodney’s we went to Glowbal and had some more drinks and snacks.  Cynthia came and met up with us at Glowbal before we took off to Celebrities for the fashion show.

At Celebrities there was “Fashion House” put on by Kid & Daab – a fashion show showcasing Ed Hardy, Affliction, Sinful and Buffalo.  We waited forever for it to begin (typical Vancouver fashion) and when it did I must say I was disappointed.  We had primo viewing in the VIP section behind the DJ booth and could see everything.  The models looked so unprofessional.  It seemed like there was a lot of tension backstage, frustration – maybe no trust in the stylists or makeup artists, because when they came out they all seemed awkward.  No one gave it.  Not even, disappointingly, Jesse who is a pro at this kind of thing.

After the fashion show we left (ran into Melany and Ryan so if I knew what was best for me I needed to hightail it out of there).  We ended up meeting this guy who I will refer to as Crazy-Langley-Guy as I don’t even know if he told me his name at all…  He was so cocky and crazy and pretty well wasted.  He said, “We’re going to the Roxy now, going to hang out with Chad Kroeger and Tom from Hedley.”  Now what Crazy-Langley-Guy didn’t know is that I had been texting with my good friend Todd who works on CFOX and hosted what has to have been one of the craziest Rock Report’s ever that day (how often do people spray hairspray on their ball-sack and light it on fire on the radio?) and Todd told me they were all at Republic.  So we get to the Roxy and the doorman tells us they aren’t there yet.  So then we go to Republic and go upstairs and meet them in the VIP.  Tom was right by the rope and Crazy-Langley-Guy introduced us.  Then Chad Kroeger came up to us and shook our hands and then said, “Let’s all get wasted!” and soon after that we picked up and went to the Roxy and hung out in the back room.

The Roxy is like a college house party – that’s the vibe.  Chilling in the backroom with Chad Kroeger, some Default members and the guys from Hinder.  I’m sure there were other mentionable people there also but I don’t know who any of these guys are to tell you the truth.  I saw Matt again there, he lives in Abbotsford and he remembered meeting me last time also.  He was pretty drunk and said we needed to exchange numbers before the night was over – we didn’t.  At one point he brought Chad over to me almost like a, “See, look at her” and Chad looks at me and says to him, “Ya she’s really hot!”  I ended up meeting a pretty solid dude named Dave who lives in Mission (20 min from my house, not even) so we chatted and got to know each other pretty well.  He plays bass in Default.  Cynthia ended up cutting out early and I kept on drinking water.  That must have been the first time I’ve ever been sober at the Roxy – normally I can barely remember leaving let alone remember how I got home.  Ended up going to an after party in Kits with Dave, J (their drum tech) and some other guy I think his name was Ryan…  Jeremy ended up arriving with some girl as I left.  I said no to the adult candy that was presented also.  Overall a pretty proud night for myself…

I had such a great night last night.  It’s nice being able to go out and not get drunk and have smart conversations with like-minded people.

So I made a post awhile ago how I was going on a 2 week program.  Well that didn’t happen.  Over the last week and a half I’ve been doing the program, but not in the extremities that the guidelines have you follow.  I still had waffles with pudding and some DQ cake for my nephews birthday party.  Still had a couple chocolate mini eggs that sit in a bowl taunting me in the kitchen.  But for the most part I’ve followed.  I’ve made healthy choices, portion controlled, drank TONS of water, and exercised.  I’ve done nearly 45 minutes of cardio every day (minus a few days) amongst other exercises and also visited with my new trainer twice.  So here is what daily food journaling, not so much wellness journaling, and keeping track of my exercise has told me (I know the average food calorie thing is low, but the online journal missed a day and that’s including today only having had a protein shake and some eggs so far):
Results: In the last 7 days Toolbox:   You have consumed an average of 607 calories a day. Nutrition   You have burned an average of 1084 calories a day. Exercise   Your average overall wellness has been excellent. Journal   Your average stress level has been: moderately stressed Journal   Your average motivation level has been: normally motivated Journal   Your average energy level has been: moderate Journal   Your average confidence level has been: high Journal   Your average happiness level has been: happy Journal Overall: You have lost 6 lbs. Measurements   You have lost a total of 7.5″ from your body measurements. Measurements

If I was one of those people I would have written about how the Bank of Canada has dropped its interests rate by .5% earlier this morning.  But I’m not completely into that sort of thing.

I wanted to write about how a judge has allowed certain evidence into Chad Kroeger’s drinking and driving case that is against his charter of rights.  So in order to do that I had to dig into our dear charter of rights and the more I read through them the more I realized I no longer really cared about poor Mr. Kroeger but instead on daily injustice’s that are robbing Canadians every day of their very own rights.

“Everyone has the right not to be subjected to any cruel and unusual treatment or punishment.”

This one made me go “Ha!” out loud.  Sadly I recall a certain incident were a few policemen took two guys into Stanley Park and repeatedly beat them.

A lot of places in the Charter of Rights you will find the word “freedom”.  But can and does freedom actually exist in our country?  There can be thousands of arguments regarding this question.  We are free to do certain things, but the government has ultimate rule.  I’m not saying that I want to go and break the law or anything – but take in the Charter where it says, “freedom of conscience and religion”.  Where does one draw the line however when it comes to life and death?  Apparently it is against the Jehovah Witness’ religion to have any sort of blood transfusions.  But when sextuplets were prematurely born they were given blood transfusions against the parents will (see article).  Now I know most people will probably think how stupid of these parents to deny something that will save their babies – but let’s realize this people, if we are to respect our fellow Canadians must we now allow everyone the freedom of conscience and religion?  This where I stop and not type all the “maybe” scenarios that are forming in my mind. And for those of you who may want to tell me I’m retarded for actually thinking that it was the parents right to refuse blood transfusion, I’d like to mention something I’m covered under in our Charter of Rights, “freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication”.  So there.

If you walk down the nice tourist-ridden shopped street of Gastown (you know, that street with the infamous steam clock that was only built in 1977), you will notice security guards in yellow jackets.  I hope these men make you all feel safe from the “bad” and “dangerous” people just blocks away who reside in what we call the Lower East Side (shhh, that means EAST HASTINGS STREET shhh!).  What these yellow jacketed men are actually doing in making sure that the homeless who make up the area remain off the nice tourist streets.  This is actually against the homeless people’s Charter of Rights (yes, they get the same ones we do, they are still human beings they still have souls and they still deserve rights).  Case in point, “freedom of peaceful assembly”.  They are allowed on public streets, just the same as you and I.  To be asked to leave and I’m pretty sure sometimes get bullied is against their Charter of Rights.

I have a strong feeling this next right does not get exercised as often as our Charter of Rights are broken: “Anyone whose rights or freedoms, as guaranteed by this Charter, have been infringed or denied may apply to a court of competent jurisdiction to obtain such remedy as the court considers appropriate and just in the circumstances.”  Wouldn’t it be a great case to see all the homeless who have been stripped of their rights come together to obtain remedy?  But that’s right…  it’d never happen – heaven forbid something shine bad lighting on our dear City of Vancouver
